Janus Rostock | Regional Managing Director of the Buildings+Places, AECOM
Janus Rostock, a leader in architecture, urbanism and integrated design, brings more than two decades of experience to his role as the Regional Managing Director of the Buildings+Places business line at AECOM Middle East. Ranked #3 in Design Middle East’s 2025 Creative 30 Powerlist, he is renowned for his strategic vision, collaborative approach and ability to deliver projects that leave a lasting mark on the region’s urban landscape.
Janus’s career has been shaped by international experiences and a commitment to impactful design. He began with AECOM in 2018 leading Master Planning and Landscape, later returning to Denmark as CEO of a Copenhagen-based consultancy. Driven by a passion for shaping cities, he rejoined AECOM Middle East as Vice President of Urbanism + Planning and Architecture, overseeing multidisciplinary teams on transformative projects across the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Following this he was entrusted with the leadership of the Buildings+Places business line, expanding his remit to guide the growth and strategic direction of one of the region’s most diverse and influential practices.
His work has redefined the region’s urban landscape. Early in his career, he contributed to the award-winning Triangeln Station at KHR Architects, a project recognized for seamlessly merging architecture, urban design and public experience. At Dubai Opera, he delivered a cultural icon that blends world-class performance facilities with engaging public spaces. In Dubai Harbour, he guided a waterfront development integrating urban, leisure and hospitality components with a focus on sustainability. Dubai Creek Harbour reflects his approach to large-scale urbanism, combining heritage, innovation and climate-responsive design, including smart mobility, green networks and resilient public spaces. On the regional mega-project masterplan in Saudi Arabia, Janus led the vision for a future city that integrates nature-based solutions, advanced infrastructure and inclusive urban planning.
Throughout his career, Janus has championed interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering strong cross-functional relationships and creating environments where diverse perspectives drive innovation. As Managing Director, he continues to advance the firm’s mission, nurturing client partnerships, inspiring teams and advocating for design that meets today’s challenges while anticipating tomorrow’s opportunities.
